HIGHLAND CASTLES

Explore Historic and Romantic Castles of Highland History

We have some awesome castles in and around Strathspey and the Cairngorms National Park.

Whether a romantic ruined castle or a stately home, there’s plenty to choose from on the Historic Castle tours. Perhaps you’ve connections to famous local clans: Grant, McPherson, Gordon, Brodie, Stewart and Campbell and wish to visit the ancestral homes of your clan chiefs or just love Scottish history? I can transport you there back in time.

Some date from the 13th century and are little more than ruins, but they’re set in romantic settings where you can let your imagination run wild. Others still lived in by members of the family are open to the public and host a wealth of Scottish history for you to explore and experience.

There’s the famous Cawdor Castle with connections to Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ and the instantly recognisable ruins of Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness, where you may also be lucky enough to see ‘Nessie’!

Other earlier castles may be in ruins, but their isolation and turbulent history add atmosphere to their romantic setting.

For those with connections to Clan Grant, there’s Castle Grant, Urquhart Castle and Ballindalloch Castle set among it’s beautiful gardens.

Some of the castles are closed to the public during the winter  Oct-April. However there are still plenty of others worth visiting on the Historic Castle Tours

Day tours excluding lunch and entrance tickets are £95/perso
